More Help: More Resources to Help You at IUB

This page provides a brief overview of five other key IUB resources . . .

Your academic advisor
Your RA (resident assistant)
The Resource Guide prepared for you by IUB’s Office of First Year Experience Programs
IUB’s Undergraduate Library Services
The Call Center

Your Academic Advisor

Your academic advisor is very knowledgeable about everything IUB has to offer. Ask him/her for help in exploring academic majors, learning about student organizations, or getting help with questions you have about any aspect of life at IUB. For most of you, your advisor will be from University Division (UD) and s/he will have an office in your residence center. For UD students living off-campus, your advisor is in the main UD administrative offices located in Maxwell Hall. Exceptions are those students who are participating in special programs such as Groups, Athletics, FASE, and the Hutton Honors College; or have a faculty advisor assignment; or were admitted directly into a degree-granting unit. If one of these exceptions applies to you, consult with your assigned advisor in your program or school.

Your RA

Most freshmen live in residence centers on campus. In addition to offering great locations and many conveniences, residence center life makes another excellent “in person” resource available to you—your Resident Assistant (RA). Your RA has direct personal experience with IUB’s many opportunities, and s/he also has specialized training in how to help you resolve the kinds of questions and problems you may find yourself facing on a day-to-day basis. When in doubt about where to go for information about IUB, your RA is a great resource.

Office of First Year Experience Programs’s Resource Guide

This bright red notebook was distributed to you when you attended the Orientation Program prior to starting your classes here at IUB. In addition to providing the scheduling and assignment information you needed to get through Orientation, it includes an extensive reference section on various types of academic resources, support services, and campus activities at IUB. It also includes information on key campus units such as Residential Programs and Services, University Information and Technology Services, and University Division. Key sections of the Resource Guide are available on the web as well at http://www.indiana.edu/~fye/students/resources
