Getting Around: Transportation

Campus Bus Service and Routes

  • Campus Bus Service
    120 W. Grimes Lane
    855-8384

Tired of running home through the rain? Spooked by your nighttime strolls to the library? Try IU’s campus bus service, which provides access to all areas of the campus and downtown, as well as Eastland Plaza shopping center and College Mall. Your driver can give you transfers to Bloomington Transit buses. Campus residents have a special advantage in using the campus bus system, since many residence halls are directly on the bus routeCand no residence hall is more than a short walk from a bus stop. You can pay cash for your rides (fare is 75 cents) or purchase a pass. Some passes allow unlimited rides for one or both semesters on all routes, while a commuter pass (Stadium Express) is good for weekdays only. Passes are available at Card Services, 501 N. Union.

Escort Services and Personal Safety

  • The Commission on Personal Safety
Created in 1987, the Commission on Personal Safety addresses issues that have a direct bearing on the personal safety of students, faculty, staff, and visitors to the Bloomington campus. It accomplishes its work through subcommittees on communication and policy, education, facilities and services, and bicycle safety. The dean for women’s affairs serves as co-chair with the dean of students. For more information, e-mail: cps@indiana.edu

  • IUSA Safety Escort Service
    855-SAFE (855-7233)
The service operates every day, transporting students and faculty by means of mini-vans. The hours are Sunday–Thursday 7 p.m.–2 a.m., Friday and Saturday 7 p.m.–midnight (fall and the first 2 1/2 months of second semester); Sunday–Thursday 8 p.m.–2 a.m., Friday and Saturday 8 p.m.–midnight. IUSA Safety Escort also offers Walking Escorts to students five nights a week (during the warmer months), Sunday–Thursday 7:30 p.m.–11:30 p.m. The service is run by a hired staff, with the exception of Walking Escorts—which is run by volunteers.

  • Raising Awareness of Interactions in Sexual Encounters (RAISE)
RAISE is a group of student volunteers that facilitates rape awareness programs in dorms, fraternities, sororities, classes, and for student groups at Indiana University. RAISE presentations are a great way to discuss issues that are often confusing, but which affect many of us and need to be discussed.
